The Rhythm & Blues Revue

The Rhythm & Blues Revue is being held on Saturday 20th September, from 8pm - 1am at the Worthing Assembly Hall, Stoke Abbott Road, Worthing BN11 1HE. This venue boasts a multitude of beautiful Art Deco features, as well as a huge sprung dancefloor, plenty of seating, a fully licensed bar, and a large car park.

Attracting over 400 people from far and wide, this annual live music spectacular just gets bigger and better every year! This year, the attractions include live music with two top bands, the fabulous Laura B and the Moonlighters, and the talented Juke Joint Jump.

Laura B and the Moonlighters are an exciting seven-piece rockin' and honkin' rhythm and blues combo in the upbeat style of Ruth Brown, Bessie Smith and Lavern Baker.

The band is led by the talented and charismatic vocalist Laura B, backed by her all-star band comprising members of Ocean's Seven, Sugar Ray's Flying Fortress, The Big Six, Alabama Slammers and the Mike Sanchez Band, to name but a few. Also featuring the exceptional Henri Herbert at the boogie-woogie 88, Lady Laura and the guys guarantee a big beat sound and performance to match many of the great R'n'B artistes of the fifties.

The six-piece Juke Joint Jump formed late in 2005 after ex Bus Stop Boys Paul Richardson (drums), Olly Prime (bass) and Ian Gillon Junior (guitar / lead vocals), decided to try something new. With the addition of full-time piano man Ed Graham, master blaster Alex Bland on tenor sax, and Barry (the lip) Few on trumpet, the boys were on a roll.

Juke Joint Jump are all about having a good time, and the live set includes a selection of cover songs by artists ranging from Bullmoose Jackson to Louis Prima and Louis Jordan and original songs penned by Ian Gillon Junior and Paul (the talent) Richardson. All are designed to give the dancers a great deal of exercise, whilst at the same time entertaining the sit-down crowd with some slightly risque lyrics.

Between band sets, the dancefloor will be kept red-hot with tunes from DJs Jumpin' Jim (Hemsby, Rhythm Riot, regular DJ at Winning Post) plus our very own Kalamazoo Colin.

Between dances, have a browse through the adjoining hall, which will be transformed into a vintage mall for the night, filled with stalls selling vintage and reproduction 1940s and 50s clothing, accessories and memorabilia.
