This venue boasts a multitude of beautiful Art Deco features, guaranteed
to provide a stunning backdrop to a trip back in time, as well as a
huge sprung dancefloor, plenty of seating, a fully licensed bar, and
a large car park.
THE ATTRACTIONS
The
Memphis Belle Swing Orchestra
Not many bands can boast that their first performance featured
singing star Harry Connick Jnr, but such is the heritage of this orchestra.
Originally formed in 1990 to appear in Sir David Putnam's film 'Memphis
Belle', the impact was so extraordinary that Greg Francis decided to keep
them together, and has never looked back. This superb band consists of top
class musicians all dressed in American 8th Army Uniform, so as well as
sounding fantastic playing the hits of the Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey
Bands and many other orchestras of the era, they really look the part.
The
Swingtime Sweethearts
Take a trip down memory lane with songs from the 1940s. The
Swingtime Sweethearts are Annie Riley & Le'arna Ashleigh, both successful
solo artists, with a combined experience of over 12 years. Their affection
for the forties has brought them together to perform as the Swingtime Sweethearts,
and their wide range of songs include those that were originally hits for
The Andrews Sisters, Vera Lynn and Ella Fitzgerald.
Viv
the Spiv
Brought to you by the charismatic Iain Dawson, Viv the Spiv
will be the compere for the night. Playing an authentic wartime Spiv from
South London, Viv assures that he’s ‘always got a good supply of quality
merchandise for sale, it’s not nicked, it’s just not paid for yet’. His
quality goods include; ‘Nylon Stockings with free fitting service; Fags
(all your favourite brands); Ration Books (some coupons missing); Knicker
Elastic @ 3d a yard and Powdered Egg’. He insists ‘if I ain’t got it, I
can get it and if I can't get it, it ain’t worth having missus.’
DJ
Gypsy John’s ‘Jump for Joy’
The main man from Cinque Ports Swing Jive in Hastings, DJ
and Lindy Hopper extraordinaire Gypsy John will provide the music between
the acts to keep that dancefloor jumpin’ throughout the evening.
Clothing
Stalls
Between dances,
have a browse through stalls selling vintage and reproduction clothing,
accessories and memorabilia.
WHAT
SHALL I WEAR?
To help make this event even more special and to add to the
atmosphere, suggested dress for the ball is allied uniform, 1940s civilian
or modern eveningwear. There are several good fancy dress shops listed in
the Yellow Pages that can supply WWII uniforms and 1940s-style clothing.
The main thing, though, is that you just come along and enjoy yourself!

TICKET INFORMATION
Please note
that this event is by advance ticket only. Tickets are £20.00 each,
