Bournemouth Jive Weekend 2011

On Friday the 5th August we took a trip along the south coast to Bournemouth for our first Brighton Jive "Weekend Dance Break". The weekend proved to be a great success, with the combination of Workshops during the day and Live bands and DJ's during the evening.

On Friday afternoon, Georgina and I taught a 3-hour beginners workshop for the people that came along that were non-Brighton Jive dancers. After dinner, which was excellent cuisine I must add!. I started the evening by Djing, then we had the pleasure to be entertained by a superb Rock n Roll Band - Rockin' the Joint, who certainly set the pace for the weekend with a great performance. I continued the Djing and ended the night at 1am.

After breakfast on Saturday morning, Again it was back to the ballroom for a simple 'Airsteps' workshop. After lunch the workshops continued in the afternoon with Chrissy & Gwen Jordan from Now That's Jive, providing an excellent afternoon's tuition in East Coast Swing. The entertainment continued after dinner with DJ Major 5x5, playing an excellent mix of Swing and R & B. Cliff (Major 5x5) took a break, to be relieved by the fabulous 11-piece piece Jump Jive Band The Regular Joes!.

The "Joes" were amazing, really setting the night on fire with some brilliant vocals accompanied by that big band sound. Again, I finished the evening Djing till 1am. Then retired to the bar with Jamie & Carolyn till 3am.

After Sunday breakfast, we had some free time to relax and choose how we wanted to spend the morning. I decided to take a walk down to the Beach with Patsy, Tim, Carolyn, Debbie & Lorraine. We chilled out for a couple of hours drinking coffee at a seafront bar. Making our way back to the hotel for lunch, we decided to take the bus.

On the bus, we happened to come across Dorset's Town Crier in his full regalia! Apparently he is the 2nd longest-serving Crier in the world. After chatting to him on the short journey back to the hotel, I invited him to come back with us to make a short speech to everybody over lunch, which he kindly accepted, for a pint!. Nobody would believe us, that we met him on the bus!

We finshed off the weekend, with a record hop after lunch and said our goodbyes at 4pm. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend having lots of laughs and dancing. As a result, I had received many comments from people who felt the same. These comments and photographs will be available to view on the weekender page soon. But if you can't wait they can be seen now on our Facebook page.

The Hotel is very keen for us to come back again next year, so I am currently discussing the terms with them. The proposed weekend is 3rd -5th August 2012 so keep an eye on the website or join my Facebook Group page to keep up to date on the developments for next year!.
